A Healthy Vegetable Tamale From Nashville PlumbiingGourmet

With all the buzz our plumbers about “green” and “going green”, why not take a step further in that direction with the Nashville Plumbiing. Placing a hot tamale on a stick is not only easy but fun, and you can use your imagination to make it even more fun and tasty. A great meal for any celebration, this easy recipe from the “Plumber’s Delight” cookbook will be a big hit at your next cookout or just hanging out with your friends. Great for kids and grown-ups alike, this recipe has been featured on numerous television cooking shows, including Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, as well as numerous magazines including Cookery Pages and More.

For this recipe you’ll need tamales, cornmeal or flaxmeal bread dough, two types of vegetable cut into strips, garlic, onion, cumin, chili powder, and salt to taste. Split the data into halves, and place one half into the center of each of six cornmeal or flaxmeal bread halves. On each half of the data coin, place a quarter of a teaspoon of ground cumin or chili powder. Also sprinkle a generous amount of salt over both pieces of data. Spread a little water on the bottom of the bread half to make it wet. Turn each half over, coat with the sauce and bake in the oven until the stuffing starts to appear around the edges.

Serve with chips and a salad for a healthy snack. If you want to serve a more upscale version of the tamale, you may want to consider grilling instead of frying. Grilled vegetables are a healthier alternative, and they will show up on your dining table sooner. If you decide to grill your vegetables, remember to always leave enough time for the dish to cool down. Using a spatula or fork, turn the hot vegetable and use it to flip the cooked side over so that you have a new side with just the grill marks. This is a great way to get creative with something you may normally buy in a grocery store, and with minimal fuss and preparation, you can prepare delicious meals that are healthy too!
